Champion’s Challenge
After many months of planning by Ruth Moody & her team of “Blue T-shirts” we were delighted to welcome on average 80 children each morning. Many brought their friends along to join in the fun!
The buildings had been well decorated to add to the atmosphere on the sporting theme. Peter Lawther ably told the Bible story each day on the theme of Jesus being our Champion – the wise & foolish builder, the healing of the centurion’s daughter, Jesus’ death & resurrection.
The memory verses and quizzes were based on the story. There was great competition between the boys and the girls on the Pitch Scoreboard with girls clinching the victory on the last day. The memory verses and stories were reinforced by the craft and activity sheets sent home each day, with prizes for those able to remember their verses.
The games were a popular part of the morning especially when the sun actually shone and we could use the car park space. We were grateful to Co-op supermarket at Dunclug for donating all the refreshments for the week. The healthy option of fruit maybe wasn’t as popular as the biscuit days!
Chad the chicken was the mascot for the week and led us in The Funky Chicken, Tootsie Roll and Superman songs as our warm-up. A live band accompanied the singing with Caroline and her team leading the singing and actions most enthusiastically!
The whole week was a great team effort involving many – from registration, manning the doors and car park, craft team, catering and a great bunch of lively teenagers and it was also very encouraging that a team met to pray upstairs each morning!
We rounded off the week with a Barbeque (indoor version) and Family service on Sunday teatime, when the parents got an insight as to what had gone on all week behind closed doors, with video clips, photo slide show and joining in the singing.
We had lots of positive feedback from the children during the week with comments like – “Best HBC ever!” “Can I book my place for next year?” and “I’m too old to come next year but want to be a helper!”
The burning question is:- Same time, same place next year?
